Welcome to the Castlebar Pantomime Website

Castlebar Pantomime is based in the County Town of Mayo in the west of Ireland. We are Mayo's longest running Pantomime whose catch phrase is - "Castlebar Pantomime, The Original & The Best! Believe it!

There is a Pantomime tradition within Castlebar going back to at least 1922 with a Stephen Garvey production of "Red Riding Hood". It was from 1951 to 1965 however that the roots of Castlebar Pantomime as we know it today appeared on the stage of the Town Hall, Linenhall Street, Castlebar.
Names like Jimmy Garvey, Herbie Glynn, Pearse Carney, Andy McTigue, Beatrice Conway, Nan Monaghan, Angela Denning & many, many more entertained the people of Mayo with slap stick comedy & ingenious resourcefulness when it came to presenting shows.

There was a gap in this local tradition from 1966 until 1986 when Fr Des Fahey & Sean Lyons gathered a motley crew to revive Castlebar Pantomime & present "Dick Whittington" to the enthusiastic people of Mayo & beyond from the same stage as the 1950's & 60's, that of the Town Hall, Castlebar.

Twenty years later in 2005, Castlebar Pantomime celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a production of "Panto At The OK Corral". A remarkable achievement for any drama group. But even more remarkable when you consider that this is an amateur production, who survive solely through their own good spirits & the support of the people of Mayo.

So, as its 22nd Anniversary production of “Little Red Ridding Hood” approaches in January 2007 (details within News Section), who are the people within Castlebar Pantomime both past & present? You are invited to take a look within the pages of Castlebar Pantomimes website, to take a step back in time to view the laughter, smiles & triumphs of Castlebar Pantomime.........
